What is "Hearts In Motion"?
Well, our headquarter's website statement says it all - we just add a Louisville flavor to it:

The mission of Hearts In Motion is to provide care and medical treatment for children, families, and communities through its programs and sponsorships in the U.S., and Central and South America. An additional goal is to provide opportunities for individuals to participate in short-term mission experiences. The impact of the trip experience on each team member is at least as great as the impact on the lives of the people we touch. Many lives are changed.

Hearts In Motion works to complement resources already in place while respecting the culture of those whose lives it touches. Hearts In Motion accomplishes this with compassionate volunteers who unite their efforts and talents.

H.I.M. has established itself in Guatemala by consistently providing outstanding care and services since 1990.

The following is from Laura, one of the HIM-LOU coordinators for our trip this year ---Laura has been several past service trips to Guatemala through Hearts In Motion:

This school is in a woman's backyard. They used plywood as desks. The people of Guatemala are so loving and caring - they value community and want to help each other. They are very accepting of Hearts in Motion and the good that Hearts in Motion brings to the community. Some people say that you can't go somewhere and actually make a difference, but I disagree with that. Hearts in Motion has made a difference in Zacapa, Guatemala. By continuing to work in that region they have brought education (to both children and adults), health care (through nutrition centers, clinics, and rehab centers) and community (boys clubs and fire fighters) to help change the area for the better. By supporting Hearts in Motion you truly are making a difference to these people.

How H.I.M. came to Louisville
(a brief history)

Hearts in Motion first came to Louisville through Bellarmine University. Bellarmine University found out about Hearts in Motion and began taking yearly trips. Many of the college students were parishioners at St. Pius X church and approached the church for help, both financially and through prayers. St. Pius willingly helped the students. The first year was not the only year St. Pius helped college students travel to Guatemala - they did so for three more years. After the fourth year, it was decided that St. Pius would take their own trip. Now, here we are: Trips go every year from Bellarmine, St. Pius, and now Saints Polycarp and Clements.

Over the years groups from the Louisville area have built schools, playgrounds, assisted in surgeries, painted murals, donated clothes, backpacks and toys, built a nutrition center, sent a semi-container full of supplies, and so much more. We only hope to continue in assisting Hearts in Motion in their mission of improving the lives of the people living in Guatemala.

Hearts in Motion is a non-profit, non-denominational agency that was established in 1990
to assure medical care for children and families in the United States,
as well as Central and South America. For more information,
